Introduction

To optimally use a Medical Device, users (healthcare professionals, patients, caregivers, etc.) should be trained in the use of the device and the learning curve is dependent on concepts such as health and device literacy, support from healthcare teams, patient involvement, type of Medical Device to be used, etc. For this reason, when patients are direct users of Medical Devices, engagement is key. Patients can provide highly valuable information that can contribute to the development of safe and efficacious Medical Devices, as well as educating and empowering other patients, thus enabling them to be more active in treating their disease and/or improving their quality of life.
