What is a Joint Scientific Consultation?

The rationale for a JSC is for technology developers to align research and development with respect to HTA. This will be done before gathering costly clinical data.

Under the HTAR, Health Technology Developers can engage in JSCs with a subgroup designated by the Coordination Group. The aim of the JSC is for the technology developer to obtain guidance to shape the clinical development plan to generate evidence that will be appropriate for a future assessment (Article 16 (1)).

Note that the results of joint scientific consultations on a particular health technology are not binding.(Article 16(3)).
